Tim Nackashi

Nackashi made his feature documentary debut as co-director, cinematographer and editor of the award-winning documentary Dirty Work, which follows three men who deal with our unpleasant business -- a septic tank pumper, a bull semen collector, and an embalmer. Co-directed with David Sampliner and executive produced by Edward Norton, Dirty Work premiered at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival and was awarded Best Documentary Feature at the Atlanta Film Festival, a jury prize at BendFilm, screened at numerous festivals including Silverdocs, Full-Frame, and the Calgary Int’l Film Festival, and was broadcast nationally on the Sundance Channel.

Nackashi recently directed the commissioned documentary Every Child Is Perfect, which follows several children, born with the birth defect cleft lip and palate, as they undergo surgeries and rehabilitation at several research hospitals in Florida. In London he recently directed the pilot episode of Tattoo Diaries, a reality-show centered on tattoo fanatics across the globe. Nackashi edited segments for the ITVS funded documentary Project Kashmir, shot by Academy Award-winning documentarian Ross Kauffman, as well as segments for the in-progress documentary Sold In America, which explores the disturbing industry of sex-trafficking in America. Nackashi has also directed award-winning music videos, and has edited music documentaries including a feature-length retrospective of the internationally acclaimed rock band R.E.M.

He is currently co-directing a feature documentary about the life of Canada Lee, a world-champion prizefighter turned groundbreaking Hollywood actor, who in the 1930’s, his fame to advocate for civil rights while shunning stereotypical roles, only to be blacklisted during the Red Scare.

Nackashi currently lives in Los Angeles, California and works as an editor for the PBS series Wired Science. Prior to his career as filmmaker, Tim Nackashi lived a double-life for many years as both musician, performing with his nationally touring rock-group ‘Empire State’, and co-founder and project manager of the multi-media company, Eo Studios, Inc.
