ALAN STECKER

Alan Stecker taught Production Basics, Studio, and Field Production from 2000 to 2005 at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Georgia. After retiring from his position of lecturer, Stecker began full-time work on a series of video documentaries on the sociology of aging, funded in part by the Institute of Gerontology at the University of Georgia. Titles of completed video profiles are, “Creecy,” “Dr. Mary Starke Harper: A Legacy of Service,” “Sam and Sally Ballard: A Love Story,” “Charlie Swartz: A Gift of Love, a Gift of Life, a Gift of Wisdom,” “Bishop Raymond F. Davis: A Life Rich in Miracles, A Conversation with Dr. Gordon Streib, Father of Modern Gerontology” and “Alvar Sunol: His Vision and his Art.”

Alan Stecker, founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ASV Communications, continues to drive the strategic direction for ASV’s award winning productions. Alan’s 40 years of motion picture production experience includes work for NBC’s Nightly News, The Today Show, several NBC magazine shows, and (after leaving NBC News) CBS’s 60 Minutes. As a photojournalist Stecker covered national and international stories from combat and natural disasters to political campaigns and heart felt feature profiles. At WMAQ-TV/ Chicago Stecker was assigned to NBC’s first investigative unit, Unit 5, where he designed, built, and operated NBC’s first surveillance production vehicle and hidden, suitcase camera. Unit Five series received numerous local, national, and international awards, including the prestigious Peabody Award for “Strip and Search.” In 1980 this series sparked a change in the State of Illinois law, mandating that a woman must be striped and searched before incarceration, even if her offence was a minor traffic violation.

As ASV’s primary Writer/Director and Director of Photography, Stecker designed and crafted video and film projects for corporate clients, nonprofit organizations, foreign governments, political parties, ad agencies, and public relations firms. Stecker served formidable clients, such as Jimmy Carter, the American Cancer Society, the Atlanta Ballet Company, Barbara Bush, the Morehouse School of Medicine, the Turkish and Indonesian governments, Hill and Knowlton, Coca Cola, UPS, and Mohawk Carpets. Beginning in 2005 Stecker worked as a consultant to CNN/IBN in India and GEO in Pakistan to help launch 24-hour news networks.

Alan Stecker received his M.F.A. from Rhode Island School of Design in Painting and his B.A. from Florida State University in Fine Art/Painting.
